At University Centre Weston, lecturer Ellie brings learning to life by combining her passion for teaching with hands-on experience as a practising midwife at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
No two days are ever the same for Ellie in her clinical role. She leads antenatal clinics, carries out routine checks for expectant mothers, and works in delivery suites supporting births. This work spans every stage of maternity care. She also spends time in the community, visiting families at home and supporting them as they adjust to life with a newborn.
This experience feeds directly into her teaching. By continuing to work within the NHS, Ellie ensures her knowledge remains current, regularly attending professional study days to stay up to date with the latest research and best practice.
For her students this real-world insight is invaluable. Ellie understands first-hand the challenges they face and uses her experience to offer both practical guidance and reassurance.
This industry experience forms part of the Healthcare Careers Excellence Hub; University Centre Weston is committed to preparing learners for success in a rapidly evolving job market which is reflected in our offer via our bespoke Career Excellence Hubs, which form an integral part of all college programmes.
