UCW can visit schools and colleges to help pupils prepare for a future in higher education. We can visit at a time that fits around the school day, or alternatively you can bring your learners to us.

Although most of the activities we offer are designed for pupils, we are also happy to talk to teachers and parents to help them support pupil progression to higher education.

We are also committed to recruiting students from a broad and diverse community who have the potential to succeed and benefit from higher education.

Our Outreach Team is therefore dedicated to working with state schools and colleges to raise their pupils’ aspirations and widen participation in higher education.

Hi, I'm Emma!

As the Higher Education Widening Participation and Recruitment Officer it is my job to support, encourage and maximise opportunities for potential students.

Within my role, I attend various school and college events, UCAS exhibits and arrange on-site Open Days; no two days are the same, which I love! The variety that my role brings enables me to engage in a range of conversations about Higher Education and what it entails.

My goal is to ensure that students have all of the necessary information in order to make a decision that is best for them.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

As part of our outreach and widening participation plan, we would like to support you with the key areas of the Higher Education journey.

CAMPUS VISITS

We find that many pupils want to see for themselves what a university-level institution actually looks like before deciding how they should progress in their education.

UCW is able to arrange tours of our Knightstone, Loxton or South West Skills campuses, all subject to government guidelines.

The tours are conducted by our students, so pupils are able learn at first-hand exactly what it is like to study at UCW, and also find out more about subjects including student finance and life as a higher education student.

    - UCW OUTREACH PROJECT

Hi, we are Emily, Emma and Eve from the UCW Outreach Project, and we’re excited to be working with schools across Weston-super-Mare to deliver fun, engaging workshops for pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6.

Our sessions are designed to enhance pupils’ educational journeys, spark curiosity, and introduce them to what university is all about.

Most importantly, we aim to show young people that further and higher education is an option for them—especially if it’s something they may not have considered before.
