Where are they now? One of our Computing and Digital alumni Alex has just started working at Weston College in our IT department! We caught up with him to see how he is getting on.
After graduating from UCW, Alex worked as a software developer building CMMS systems for a wide range of clients across the country. While in this role, he continued to develop his software development skills which led him to this role working at Weston College.
Alex explained what he does on a day-to-day basis: “I develop new systems that aim to help streamline the process of data, helping staff and students access information they need easier and more efficiently.” Alongside this, he also improves existing systems.
Alex’s time at UCW helped to prepare him for this role. “Much of my time spent at UCW was in Software developing where I expanded my knowledge in much of what I do today. For example as part of my final year project, I had to create a car dealership application and provide comprehensive documentation breaking down the agile project methodology. Much of what I done in this project from coding to documentation is reflective of what I do now at Weston College.”
This industry project forms part of the subject Careers Excellence Hub. University Centre Weston has ten sector-specific Career Excellence Hubs, which evidence our dedication to supporting both employers and learners in achieving their future goals. By creating a seamless connection between industry and education, we enable learners to acquire not only the essential skills and knowledge but also the professional networks necessary to excel in their chosen fields.
