A charity variety show held at The Winter Gardens has raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK with support from University Centre Weston (UCW) students.

The event was organised by long-time fundraiser Paul Hobbs, who confirmed that the final total raised was £2,030.33. The show featured performances from UCW’s third-year Musical Theatre and Dance for Commercial Performance students, who showcased musical numbers inspired by West End productions.

They were joined by magician Adam Richards and Weston’s Peoples’ Show Choir for the evening of entertainment, which took place last month on Friday 16 May.

Mr Hobbs, who has raised over £1 million for a range of charities over the past 31 years, said: “Every penny counts in the fight against cancer and I am delighted that we have been able to help again.”

Weston’s new mayor, Cllr Martin Williams, also attended the show, which was one of the first events in his new role.
