This month, our talented students will be featuring at Weston’s Stars of Time Comic Con. Our Year 2 and 3 students will be doing demonstrations of makeup and prosthetics looks, bodypainting demos and offering facepainting for the public.
Our Makeup, Wigs and Special Effects degree naturally connects with cosplay. The course creates wigs, hard cap wigs, prosthetics, and more, and there’s a huge interest from cosplayers in learning how to make their own pieces.
Course co-ordinator Tara said “It’s a brilliant opportunity to showcase the amazing work our students produce, while also highlighting the kind of training we offer UCW. It helps us reach creative people who might not have realised that they can study this professionally right here in Weston and we are lucky enough that this will be our third year showcasing work at Comic Con!”
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain real experience of working in an industry setting, showcasing their skills live and engaging with the public. This helps build their confidence, strengthens their portfolios, and gives them valuable insight into future careers in makeup and production.
This industry event forms part of the Performing and Production Arts Careers Excellence Hub. We are committed to preparing learners for success in a rapidly evolving job market which is reflected in our offer via our bespoke Career Excellence Hubs, which form an integral part of all college programmes. In a world where professional networks and industry-specific skills are integral to landing employment, these hubs provide a unique solution to bridge the gap between education and industry demands.
Tara added: “Stars of Time Comic-Con is such a fabulous event, and we feel really privileged to be part of it. The organisers do an amazing job bringing together the very best companies, with incredible film-standard costumes from franchises like Star Wars and many more. To be able to showcase our work alongside such talent is a real honour for us and our students!”
Stars of Time Comic Con will be taking place on Saturday 22nd of November, at The Winter Gardens in Weston-super-Mare.
