Michael Sims

Michael has taught across a range of courses over the last ten years and is now the course coordinator for the Art & Design Foundation course. He combines his work as interdisciplinary fine art lecturer with his own interdisciplinary creative practice at one of Bristol’s contemporary artist-led studios.   Michael’s approach is exploratory, and he encourages a mix of contemporary and traditional techniques. Boundaries between disciplines are fluid and solutions to ideas are sought through material exploration and visual metaphor. He advises students to get stuck into the range of multi-disciplinary practice, from drawing and sculpture to analogue film and immersive installation.   ‘The Foundation is full of magical moments where theory, practice and the creative output collide and produce wonderful creative responses. I know these moments will endure in the students and they will continue their creative journey way beyond our course.’
