Beth Jones, a BA (Hons) Graphic Design student at University Centre Weston, has demonstrated exceptional growth, creativity, and resilience throughout her academic journey. Transitioning from a UAL Level 3 Graphic Design course to the UCW/BSU Graphic Design programme, Beth faced challenges but persevered, developing confidence in her abilities and significantly impacting her field. At the UCW Awards 2025, Beth won Creative Student of the Year! A well deserved honour.
Beth’s time at UCW has been transformative, providing her with a safe and inspiring space to experiment, refine her skills, and push the boundaries of her creative practice. She has actively engaged in industry projects, including designing branding and promotional materials for pop-up shops, summer shows, and independent businesses. A standout achievement was having her design professionally printed and distributed at The Cube Microplex in Bristol, a testament to her industry-ready approach.
Reflecting on her journey, Beth cites showcasing her work at the UCW Summer Show as a key highlight: “Being able to look back on my progress and feel proud of my work was a huge moment for me.”
Her passion for film and television prop design drives her ambition, and she has proactively sought guidance from renowned industry professionals, including Tom Paris, a designer for The Devil Wears Prada theatre production, and Miraphora Mina from MinaLima, the creative force behind the Harry Potter film graphics. These experiences have broadened her professional network and given her valuable insights into the industry.
Despite facing health challenges, Beth’s determination and support network at UCW, including tutors, the HEART team, and her classmates, helped her stay on track and continue excelling. She credits her tutors for pushing her to see her full potential and creating an environment where she could develop personally and professionally.
Beth’s goal is to work as a freelance designer in the film and TV industry, combining her love for storytelling and visual creativity. She is an expressive maker who tackles challenges head-on, and her ability to step outside her comfort zone and actively seek opportunities speaks volumes about her drive and ambition.
“UCW has taught me that there are so many different career paths in design. It has helped me grow as a person and as a professional, giving me the confidence to take on new challenges.”
With her relentless creativity, passion for film, and commitment to professional growth, Beth is a worthy winner of the Creative Student of the Year, and we are excited to see where her journey takes her next. Find out more about Graphic Design at UCW by clicking here!
