New data from the UCAS End of Cycle 2025 report shows a new 6.9% rise in the number of 18-year-olds attending university while also living at home, rather than university accommodation.
There are numerous benefits to staying at home while studying in university, including financial benefits, such as being able to save your money and live more comfortably without nearly as much financial stress that comes with living in student accommodation. It can also be beneficial for your personal wellbeing, due to keeping a familiar and supportive environment around you, without having to adjust to a new environment which in some cases may not be right for you.
Not only this, there are also some lifestyle benefits such as being able to keep any part time work, being close to friends, and staying part of local hobbies or interests that you already have. These benefits combined ensure that students keep a stable lifestyle, finances and wellbeing, which enables you to have the best chances at succeeding and excelling within your education.
Another factor that students should consider before deciding on a university is travel. Most people will stay in university accommodation in order to reduce the need for travel since it can be very expensive and time consuming. However, University Centre Weston (UCW) offers students the opportunity to study at home whilst attending University courses locally. Despite being a centre, UCW offers University standard education with affiliations with Bath Spa University, UWE Bristol, and University of Worcester, giving students high standard degrees without the stress of travel and moving away.
UCW is recognised as TEF Gold, which recognises outstanding teaching, student outcomes and a commitment to consistent high-quality teaching and student support. This shows how we don’t act as a “local compromise” but as a choice and opportunity for students to receive a high-quality university level experience from a short distance.
UCW are above sector average in the following National Student Survey areas:
- Teaching Quality
- Academic Support
- Learning Opportunities
- Student Voice
These results reflect the dedication of our staff and the success of our students. We’re extremely proud of the community we’ve built here, and even prouder of the achievements of the students who choose to study with us.
If you wish to stay local, save money, and keep your support network close, UCW gives you the option, whilst still receiving a university-level education of the highest standard.
