Several of our amazing Environmental Health lecturers have recently published a book highlighting the important issue of air pollution.
This book covers the topic of air pollution on both a global and local level. The book gives gravity to the weight of this issue, with this health crisis being responsible for over 6.5 million deaths annually worldwide, contributing to lung cancer, respiratory illnesses, heart disease, and more. The book seeks to empower professionals and students in the environmental health field with knowledge and tools to manage air quality in their areas.
Part one of the book relates different pollutants to specific health outcomes, while part two examines the legal and policy frameworks which are used in the UK to manage air quality including regulators as well as national and international legislation. Part three explains how environmental health practitioners can manage air quality in their communities using law and technology to great effect.
UCW lecturers showed their clear expertise and experience when writing this book. Lecturer Nahum, the curriculum coordinator for our environmental health programmes has a wide range of experience across all core areas of the discipline. Having previously worked at the Food Standards Agency and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – he now contributes to our learner’s skills and education.
UCW lecturer Mark also contributed a great deal to this book, and to all of the students he taught over his many years at UCW. Sadly, he passed away earlier this year and is greatly missed.
Author Nathaniel also works at UCW as a qualified trainer, assessor and associate lecturer. He has particular expertise in food safety, fire safety, occupational health and safety, and risk communication. He also runs his own consultancy business for environmental health.
This book forms part of the Animal, Environment & Biological Studies Careers Excellence Hub. At University Centre Weston our approach goes beyond the traditional classroom setting. Through industry speakers, workshops, employer projects, and more, we equip our learners with the real-world experiences and insights that set them apart in the competitive job market. It’s not just about getting a job; it’s about standing out from the crowd when they embark on their job searches.
This level of expertise and industry knowledge shows that UCW students can expect excellent teaching from their lecturers. If you want to explore the book further, click here. You can also click here to find our Environmental Health courses!
