The Degree Apprenticeship in UX is a practice-led programme that focusses on the role interfaces and computational technologies play in shaping contemporary culture. You will become skilled in numerous practical and creative design methods that enable you to create informed and experimental user experiences.

This course provides employees with the opportunity to achieve a degree alongside work, whilst offering employers the chance to train and retain valued members of staff and fill the skills gaps that are holding back their businesses.

  • You will learn to use code, data and other digital materials alongside traditional design methods to realise your creative ambitions.
  • This comprehensive design practice will enable you to design, prototype and build user interfaces, data visualisations, responsive installation pieces and other user-driven interactive experiences.
  • You will also have the opportunity and support to address emerging technologies such as extended reality (XR), wearable technology, digital fabrication and artificial intelligence within a design context.

Meet our Team

Student - Sean Shearings image
Sean Shearing
Programme Coordinator - Degree Apprenticeships Computing

Sean is the primary software lecturer at UCW. He graduated from Bath University with a First Class Honours Degree in Applied Computing. After graduating he went on to work as a Software Developer Specialising in the C# and ASP.Net applications. He has also worked with a number of companies requiring Penetration Testing, Mobile Application Development and Desktop Application Development using a variety of languages and working with large teams of Developers. After four years working in the sector, Sean opted for a career change, and brings his industry experience into the class room to prepare students for the world of work.

Jason Hill
Curriculum Coordinator - Computing

Jason graduated from the University of Bath with a degree in Applied Computing and then went on to form his own business, Logical View Solutions, where he delivered marketing and web development projects for a number of prestigious clients. After a successful spell in industry, Jason turned to education and has been lecturing at UCW for almost a decade. Jason is also responsible for our World Skills success in Website Development, teaching and coaching learners through the competition process at a national level.

Ben earned a First Class Honours degree in Applied Computing ay UCW before taking up his teaching role and also has a background in student mentoring. He used his IT skills to help students at the Music Makers Academy record songs and set up concerts, and is particularly interested in computer animation, website development and software development.
