The assessment strategy is designed to connect topics across levels and encourage student reflection on their development. Aligned with the Institute of Engineering and Technology’s requirements, assessments focus on authentic and verifiable learning outcomes. To balance written exams with practical applications, the programme includes open-book exams, scenario-based questions, lab-linked assessments, and computer-based tests to evaluate software skills in solving engineering problems.
In Year 1, the Engineering Practice 1 module fosters professional attributes through a structured portfolio and presentations. A “passport” system ensures students gain key skills such as workshop techniques, library research, and health and safety awareness, mirroring aspects of an engineering apprenticeship. Other Level 4 modules interconnect content, using progressive assessments like technical tests, design-based exercises, and controlled assessments to reinforce learning.
