With so many film, television and theatrical productions, music events, photoshoots and fashion shows here in the South West, there is a need for talented production artists and designers with a flair for bringing ideas to life.
This course can help you begin or progress your career in hairstyling, cosmetics, prosthetics and special effects by providing you with the opportunity to enhance your technique alongside studies of the key practices and practitioners underpinning the disciplines.
You will be given space in our recently-renovated and professionally-equipped studio to develop your skills. You will then work on ‘live’ briefs with your peers across creative arts courses at UCW and Bath Spa University on their numerous shows and shoots throughout the year.
UCW Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Production students have also recently worked on casualty and incident simulation training exercises for Avon and Somerset Police and Avon Fire and Rescue.
They have also recently taken part in masterclasses with industry experts including acclaimed prosthetics and make-up special effects artist Stuart Bray, who has worked on TV shows including Dracula, Game of Thrones and the Walking Dead.
You will put together an extensive portfolio of your work, learn important promotional techniques and work towards a final project to demonstrate both your artistry and understanding of your chosen areas of interest.
Given this focus on the application of techniques from disciplines across the production arts, this course is suitable for students from a range of backgrounds in areas including art and design, hair and beauty, and fashion.
It is taught in the recently-refurbished University Centre at our Knightstone Campus. You will also have access to the teaching and learning facilities and higher education library at the redeveloped Winter Gardens, which is also in the centre of Weston.
Students are also invited to attend optional exhibitions and performances in the UK and abroad at an additional expense, and as well as benefiting from our lecturing team’s professional experience and industry contacts, you will also be taught by visiting experts and have the chance to attend guest lectures in a range of related areas.
If you have any questions, get in touch with the course leader Sandy Day or UCW’s HEART student services team. It would also be great to meet you and show you around at our next Open Day.
Students who pass this course will be awarded a degree from Bath Spa University. The agreement between Bath Spa University and UCW is reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure academic standards are maintained.
