Overview

Students on this course awarded it a 100% overall satisfaction score in the 2019 National Student Survey.

With successive governments attempting to improve standards in the early years sector, a degree is increasingly being seen as desirable by employers in childhood settings, especially for those who aspire to management roles.

Course detail

As well as a proven track record in supporting students who are already in work, our highly qualified lecturing team have close links with local authority children services.

Their academic specialisms cover topics including the sociology of childhood, international approaches to education and the promotion of digital technologies in early years settings.

Students on this course are also encouraged to bring their own experiences of working in early years settings to the classroom, with the work-based elements of the course complemented by the teaching of key theories and practices in areas including the status of children in society, the voice of the child and safeguarding.

You will undertake a significant and independent research project on an area of interest linked to your professional practice to prepare for further study.

You will also be inspired by expert guest lecturers and, at an additional expense, go on day trips and longer overseas residential visits. Students from this course recently visited The Gambia, for example.

The course is delivered at our Knightstone Campus in the centre of Weston. You will also be among the first students to benefit from the brilliant teaching and learning facilities at our new University Centre in the Winter Gardens on Weston seafront.

Please contact the course leader Mark Wilkins or UCW’s HEART student services team if you have any questions. It would also be great to see you at our next Open Day, where you can see our facilities and also meet the team.
