You will cover content in core areas including financial management, planning, how to analyse businesses from organisational and operational viewpoints, and traditional and social media marketing.

The programme has a work-based focus throughout to prepare its participants for employment or starting their own enterprises.

UCW’s commitment to great graduate outcomes is also underpinned by our students having access to a Careers Coaching service for the whole time they are enrolled with us.

Subject to coronavirus restrictions, you will also be invited to undertake optional day trips to real businesses and go on longer residential visits to enhance your learning experience, both at an additional expense.

In the past students from this course have spent the day at Land Rover and also gone to Belgium, for example.

It is taught at the new teaching and learning facilities at the multimillion pound University Centre in the Winter Gardens on Weston seafront.

Please contact the course leader Jason Hillyerd or our HEART student services team if you have any questions. It would also be great to see you at our next Open Day, where you can see our facilities and also meet the team.

Dan Pratlett
Lecturer in Business and Tourism

I have worked as a lecturer since 2014, where I started on a graduate internship. Having taught across several provision, mainly specialising in marketing-based modules. I have been teaching on UCW degree qualifications since 2018 and have managed modules including marketing, digital communications, and social media marketing. Previous to working at the college I worked at a school as an assistant business manager, and worked as a business consultant during my degree placement year at a motorhome dealership. I have also held several varying retail and leisure work roles and have supported several small businesses to start up and market. The business sector is constantly evolving, specifically marketing. The rise of digital media and the change in the way people communicate in the 21st century means that marketing must follow. Teaching and learning about an ever-changing system means that the subject is never the same one year to another. The most inspiring thing is the way our prepare learners for their next steps, leaving the college as well-rounded, employable young adults and being part of that journey.
