Applied Computing at UCW was awarded an overall satisfaction score of 100% in the 2019 National Student Survey.
This course emphasises the practical application of computing principles and development of IT skills.
Every industry needs computer scientists and those with the skills to design, develop and test software, so an Honours Degree in Applied Computing can provide great graduate prospects and the opportunity to work in a range of organisations across the world.
This course will set you up to take advantage of these opportunities by teaching you how to create your own website and apps and providing the broad understanding of IT needed to operate a service desk, manage a project from concept to completion and implement effective solutions to common network and systems situations.
Full-time: 3 years (2 days a week)
13th September 2021
The course covers computing fundamentals in areas including databases, software design and development, cyber security and the Internet of Things, and also includes a work placement to enhance your employability.
It culminates in a collaborative project and a practical, independent initiative, where you will be encouraged to showcase your skills by working with businesses and other organisations. In the past, for example, Applied Computing students have partnered with Visit Somerset to create websites for a host of tourism-related businesses.
You will also get the chance to undertake relevant day trips and longer residential visits at an additional expense. UCW Applied Computing students recently visited Florida to tour NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre and Universal’s Digital Animation and Visual Effects School.
The course is taught at our Knightstone Campus and you will also be able to take advantage of the technology suites in our new University Centre in the redeveloped Winter Gardens, which is also in the centre of Weston.
The best way to decide if UCW is the place for you is to come along to our next Open Day. Our HEART student services team should be able answer any of your questions about UCW, and you can contact the course leader Joe Abdulgani with any specific enquiries about the course.
Top up to an Applied Computing BSc (Hons) at UCW to explore subjects such as online security and emerging technologies, and prepare yourself for an exciting career in IT.
