Darcey Nominated for National Award

22/01/2026

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Darcey Robbins, one of our Early Years Education learners, who has been nominated for Best Innovation/Practice with Babies of the Year at the prestigious Early Childhood Studies Degree Network (ECSDN) Awards, taking place on 23 January.

The ECSDN Awards champion excellence across early childhood education in the UK, recognising individuals who make a meaningful and positive contribution to the sector.

With only ten award categories nationally, Darcey’s nomination is a significant achievement and a testament to her passion, professionalism, and commitment to the care and education of babies.

Darcey’s early years journey began while completing her Level 3 qualification, working in a baby room where she discovered a deep passion for infant care. This passion has shaped her pedagogical approach, which is firmly rooted in play-based values and sensory exploration, supporting babies’ holistic development with a particular focus on personal, social, and emotional wellbeing.

Since beginning her degree at University Centre Weston, Darcey has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights and needs of our youngest children.

Now working as a baby room leader, she champions this vital phase of early childhood education both academically and in practice. Her work has included pioneering sensory-rich environments, innovative heuristic play, and responsive caregiving strategies that have led to measurable improvements in infant engagement and emotional security.

A natural mentor and leader, Darcey actively supports fellow practitioners through reflective practice and research-informed discussions, promoting attuned interactions, respectful caregiving, and secure attachments. Her ability to translate theory into meaningful practice has made her a role model among peers and professionals alike.

Currently undertaking her dissertation on baby room practitioners as facilitators of communication and language, Darcey continues to contribute valuable insights to the sector. Her nomination is richly deserved, and we are immensely proud to celebrate her achievements.

Darcey said of the nomination: “I feel incredibly proud to be nominated for this award. To be recognised for work in an area I am so passionate about is especially meaningful to me.”
