Within this course, students will develop a range of practical skills in the following areas: creative, high fashion and historical makeup, body painting, hair and wig styling, hair cutting and colouring for film and TV, wig creation, special effects makeup and prosthetic techniques and application methods.

The course is delivered through a variety of practical workshops, lectures and seminars from industry professionals. Students will also gain additional skills from visit industry specialists. Alongside this, students will develop their academic skills through a series of sessions with the Academic Development team. Students will be expected to continue their learning outside of sessions, through independent self-study. 

This 1-year full time course is tailored to students who already hold a level 3 qualification in a related subject, as well as GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above. The course provides an introduction to Higher Education and is suited to students who are interested in progressing to university to study courses such as BA (HONS) Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics for Production, to develop more advanced industry skills and knowledge.

While we try to ensure that most costs are covered as part of the programme, there are some additional costs to enable students to complete the course and undertake work placement opportunities. These include:

• Professional kit and consumable cost of £520 (may change slightly due to inflation). This can be paid in instalments. 
• Additional costs for competitions and visits (optional)
• Extra photocopying and printing above £10 (optional)
• Cost of additional books you wish to purchase (optional)
