Holly presenting at an apprenticeship event

Holly Nominated for Constructing Excellence G4C Apprentice of the Year

02/06/2026

We are very excited to announce that UCW student Holly Knowles has been nominated for the Constructing Excellence G4C Apprentice of the Year award! This nomination is a recognition of Holly’s incredible hard work in her project management degree apprenticeship. We caught up with Holly to hear all about the award.

How did it feel to be shortlisted for this award?

Being shortlisted felt very rewarding, as it’s a real honour to have been recognised as hard working by people within the industry and to have been nominated by someone in my workplace for the efforts I put into my work. It has made me feel very confident and even more determined to keep progressing in my career.

Are you looking forward to the award ceremony?

I am excited to celebrate with the other nominees and meet people from across the construction sector. I think this is a great opportunity to reflect on what I’ve achieved so far and to enjoy the moment with my manager and fellow peers who support me daily.

What do you do as part of your apprenticeship?

I’m an apprentice with Turner and Townsend, completing their Level 6 5-year Degree Apprentice. My apprenticeship involves a mix of hands-on work and technical learning. One day a week I attend UCW to work towards my Project Management degree, for the other 4 days I spend time on commission work, learning on the job about the management of projects, their development and understanding the key roles people play within the project team.

What is your favourite part of studying at UCW?

My favourite part is being able to understand the theory and more technical side to project management. Then be able to apply it hands on in the workplace. I enjoy being able to work alongside different peers from across the T&T offices in the UK and share knowledge and experiences with each other.

This exciting award nomination forms part of the Business, Accounting and Operations Careers Excellence Hub. UCW has ten sector-specific Career Excellence Hubs, which evidence our dedication to supporting both employers and learners in achieving their future goals. By creating a seamless connection between industry and education, we enable learners to acquire not only the essential skills and knowledge but also the professional networks necessary to excel in their chosen fields.

Our first 10 years as University Centre Weston have been amazing, and we’re just getting started! Over the next ten years we will continue to grow with new courses and new degree apprenticeships developed in partnership with our Career Excellence Hub employers. We can’t wait to show you what’s coming next!

A big thank you to Holly for catching up with us, all of us here at UCW wish her the best of luck with the award this Thursday (4th of June). If you want to find out more about Holly’s degree apprenticeship, click here!
