University Centre Weston Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics for Production students winning first place at the AHT regional heat competition

Students Win Gold in Regional Makeup Competition

24/03/2023

This week we were lucky enough to host the regional AHT (Association of Hairdressers and Therapists) competitions in our Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics for Production (HMPP) studios at Knightstone Campus.

According to their website, the Association of Hairdressers & Therapists was founded in 1963 by a group of hairdressing teachers as a national network of like-minded specialists who exchanged good practice and support. The organisation facilitates a variety of exciting competitions for hair and makeup students across the UK.

The competitions hosted by University Centre Weston, in collaboration with Weston College, were the regional heats for Media Makeup (with various categories) and hair. The day saw an impressive selection of student competitors from the Southwest taking part, including from neighbouring establishments like Bristol College, Bridgwater College, Taunton College, and Trowbridge College.

Our students had some fantastic wins, with first year HMPP student Sonia winning the gold in the body painting competition “Out of Africa” and second year HMPP student, Jasmine Nickells, placing first in the face painting “signs of the zodiac” competition.

They will now go on to compete in the finals in Blackpool on the 10th May.

Excellent work guys!
