More than 350 people visited University Centre Weston (UCW) on Saturday (30 November) for our annual Christmas Community Day.

Visitors to the Winter Gardens Pavilion ballroom took part in competitions, games and activities organised by UCW students, lecturers and support staff.

Stalls included a VR headset and game made by students, a 3D printer, arts and crafts including up-cycled Christmas decorations, slime making, festive face painting, family portraits and inflatable football.

A total of £251.19 was also raised for mental health charity Mind through a raffle and other donations.

Prizes in the raffle included gym passes at Nuffield Health, a carvery for two at Lasseter’s Restaurant, afternoon tea at the Florentine Bistro, a month’s travel on First buses, two unlimited rides vouchers at the Grand Pier and wine from The Vaults.

Sadie Skellon, Head of Higher Education at UCW, said: “We’re proud to be part of a wonderful community here in Weston and North Somerset, and this is one of our ways of saying thank you for all of the support we receive throughout the year.

“We’re also really grateful to the local businesses that donated prizes to the raffle, and it is great to have raised money for such a good cause.

“Thank you so much to everyone who came along and also to those who contributed to such a fun event.”
