Celebrations this week for UCW Graduates 2022

28/09/2022

University Centre Weston (UCW) will take over the centre of Weston again on Friday 30th October with the return of its annual Graduation celebrations.

Around 1000 people will be in attendance to mark the UCW students amazing achievements by obtaining their degrees with special ceremonies taking place at St. John the Baptist Church.

After a high energy dixie band-led procession on Knightstone Road, the ceremony will see the class of 2022 receive their certificates, donning their traditional caps and gowns. The ceremonies will also include inspiring addresses by Weston College Group Principal and Chief Executive Sir Paul Phillips CBE, lecturers and a student vote of thanks.

Graduation Day ceremonies conclude with a private drinks reception for students and their guests in the College’s Hans Price Conference Centre.

Members of the public are also invited to enjoy the day, with the ceremonies set to be broadcast on a big screen in the Italian Gardens.

2022 sees the first-year students are graduating from programmes such as Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship (in partnership with West of England Institute of Technology) as well as Business and Sustainability BA (hons) being offered as a full three-year degree to ensure sustainability is embedded throughout the programme.

The diverse University Centre has expanded since the previous graduation, now running a range of “short courses” in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) as well as Software Engineering Higher Technical Qualifications.

Sir Phillips CBE said: “Graduation day is all about celebrating these students’ successes and involving our local community in a wonderful event.

“As well as grand celebration, Graduation brings time to reflect on the challenges everyone has overcome to get to where they are now: achieving greatness. The tenacity and talent of our higher education cohort never ceases to impress and puts Weston-super-Mare on the map as a hub of brilliance and success.”

“We are investing millions of pounds in learning opportunities and state-of-the-art facilities so that enterprises in our region can rely on the highly skilled and employable graduates we produce at Weston College and University Centre Weston.”
