Two Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprentices at University Centre Weston (UCW) have been putting their academic skills into practice as part of their studies and careers with Airbus.
Nicola, who is currently in her second year at UCW, and Alex, who is due to graduate soon, are both completing their degree apprenticeships alongside their roles at Airbus.
During their visit, the pair each led learners through a practical activity, giving them an insight into some of the skills used in their studies and careers.
Nicola guided learners through a maths-based task using specialist training software. The activity challenged students to calculate the potential revenue of a flight on an Airbus A350, putting their mathematical skills into practice.
Alex led an activity focused on artificial intelligence and English. Learners were given pieces of text and challenged to work out whether they had been written by a human or generated by AI, using clues within the writing to help them make their decision.
This opportunity to lead a class forms part of the Computing and Digital Careers Excellence Hub. Alex’s own journey to becoming a degree apprentice began at Weston College, where he completed a T Level before progressing to his Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship at UCW.
The visit gave learners the opportunity to hear directly from current UCW students working as apprentices at Airbus, while getting hands-on experience of the skills they could use in their own future careers.
