Across two inspiring HE Health sessions, our Assistant Practitioner learners combined professional development with community impact through a meaningful charitable initiative in support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Southmead Hospital.
The first session involved Year 1 Assistant Practitioners focusing on resilience and personal well-being, while the second brought together Year 2 Assistant Practitioners who were exploring ways to promote health and well-being within their practice. As part of these sessions, learners worked collaboratively to create and donate a collection of hand-knitted items for babies receiving care in NICU.
In total, more than 30 beautifully crafted baby hats, along with several additional knitted items, were donated to the unit. The thoughtful contribution was warmly received by staff at the hospital, who expressed their gratitude for the kindness and support shown by the learners.
The project not only highlighted the compassion and dedication of our Assistant Practitioner cohorts, but also demonstrated the importance of community engagement, empathy, and person-centred care within healthcare education. Through this initiative, learners were able to make a meaningful difference to local families while reinforcing the values that underpin their future roles in healthcare.
