For Darcey, an Early Years Education student, their time at UCW has been filled with opportunities to develop their knowledge, gain valuable experience and receive outstanding support from the Early Years team.
One of their favourite aspects of the course was the opportunity to carry out research, culminating in their dissertation. She said: “It’s definitely difficult to choose a favourite moment… but I would say I enjoyed the research process of my dissertation. I have enjoyed always enjoyed the research topics throughout my degree course so it was great to do this again!”
Darcey would recommend the Early Years Education course to anyone looking to further their knowledge, highlighting research, the importance of play and inclusive practice as key aspects of the course.
The student also praised the support they received from their lecturers throughout their studies, saying: “Lauren, Kirsty and Susie are the best support a student could ask for during their degree!! Although all the early years team are amazing.”
Darcey’s hard work was recognised at the UCW Awards, where she was awarded Counselling and Education Student of the Year! Reflecting her incredible hard work and dedication to her work, Darcey was also awarded the UCW Gold Awards Bath Spa Student of the Year. Reflecting on the evening, they said: “I was very honoured to have been acknowledged at the UCW awards.”
She added: “I was very surprised when I won Bath Spa student of the year alongside my previous award. I was very grateful to have been recognised for the work I have done.”
This year’s UCW Awards were especially significant as they coincide with the celebration of 10 years of UCW. Over the past decade, we have empowered thousands of learners to achieve their ambitions, building a vibrant community where talent, determination and opportunity thrive. As we mark this milestone, the awards provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate not only a decade of higher education excellence, but also the outstanding achievements, resilience and success of the students who continue to shape UCW’s story and inspire its future.
This isn’t the first award that Darcey has been nominated for, earlier in the year she was nominated for Best Innovation/Practice with Babies of the Year at the prestigious Early Childhood Studies Degree Network (ECSDN) Awards!
Looking back on their time at UCW, they said: “I’m very happy to have completed my degree at UCW. I received lots of support and would recommend it to anyone that was interested in taking on a degree!”
