Danielle Taylor’s time at University Centre Weston is a remarkable example of dedication, perseverance, and excellence. As a Quantity Surveying student, she has consistently demonstrated outstanding academic performance while balancing the demands of a full-time work placement and, remarkably, becoming a mother during her studies. Her commitment to her education and profession has earned her a well-deserved nomination for Engineering and Construction Student of the Year.
Danielle chose UCW for its strong reputation and the opportunity to develop her knowledge within the construction industry. “University Centre Weston had a good reputation. I chose the course as I wanted to develop my knowledge in the construction industry.” Her decision proved to be the right one, as she has thrived in her studies, achieving distinctions in her assignments and excelling in both theoretical and practical applications of her coursework.
One of the highlights of her time at UCW has been the opportunity to connect with peers from various backgrounds. “Meeting and making friends with a variety of different people” has enriched her academic journey. Additionally, the exposure to guest speakers and industry experiences has provided her with valuable insights, helping her apply her learning directly to her workplace: “It gave a real insight into putting what we have learnt into practice.”
Balancing work, study, and family life has been no small feat, but Danielle has risen to the challenge with resilience. She has juggled her work at MMES 2012 Limited while excelling in her coursework and adjusting to the life-changing experience of motherhood. Throughout, she has remained committed to her studies, submitting assignments on time and maintaining high standards of work. “I became pregnant and have had a baby throughout my studies, making it more challenging in certain areas, but I feel like I was supported by both my lecturer and fellow students. My lecturer has been very encouraging throughout my studies, helping me to understand what is required and how it can be applied to my work.”
Her dedication has not gone unnoticed. Her tutors commend her for her high-quality work, attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
Looking ahead, Danielle plans to further her education with a degree in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management. Her long-term goal is to become a contract manager, using the skills and knowledge she has gained to excel in her field.
