Beccy at the UCW Awards

Beccy’s Time at UCW

02/07/2025

Beccy Moore has been an invaluable advocate for students at University Centre Weston, serving as a student representative for two years while studying Hair, Makeup, and Prosthetics for Production. Passionate about ensuring every student has a voice, Beccy has gone above and beyond in her role, most recently taking on additional responsibilities as the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion representative.

Her commitment to student representation has been deeply appreciated by her peers, who praise her for always being approachable and proactive. She consistently brings student concerns to the university and works hard to create positive change. Managing these responsibilities while balancing full-time studies and personal commitments demonstrates her dedication and resilience.

Beccy chose UCW for the breadth of its course, the expertise of its tutors, and the opportunity to connect with industry professionals. Returning to education after 25 years, she brought a wealth of experience as a textile artist and amateur prosthetics creator for Live Action Role-Play (LARP) events. “I wanted to gain a professional certification to turn my passion into a career”, she explains.

Her time at UCW has been filled with opportunities to develop and refine her skills. She has taken part in competitions, gained industry experience, and built a strong professional network. “Being able to try and master new techniques, enter competitions, and network within the industry has been a highlight of my time here.” Work experience has been particularly valuable, with opportunities such as trauma simulation makeup for first responders and special effects work at Puxton Park’s Halloween Fright Nights.

Despite facing personal challenges, Beccy has excelled academically, achieving first-class grades in her modules. She acknowledges the support she has received from staff, particularly the Academic Development and Pastoral Care teams. “The Pastoral Care team has been a fantastic help when I have been struggling mentally, supporting me through family trauma.”

Being shortlisted for Student Representative of the Year came as a surprise to Beccy, who has never been nominated for an award before. “I attend many meetings to ensure student concerns are addressed, and I always try to make a difference. It’s amazing to be recognised for that.”

Looking ahead, Beccy hopes to complete a master’s in special effects makeup and plans to pursue a career as an SFX prosthetics sculptor in film and TV. She remains passionate about competitions and freelance work. Her advice to prospective students? “Absolutely do it. UCW is a small, welcoming community with supportive tutors and fantastic work experience opportunities.”
