Our Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics for Production students took part in several exciting activities to boost their skills and practice. Two learners attended Bath Bodyart Weekend. This was an exciting event designed to create an interactive and immersive environment for body artists.
While they were there, two students entered into the Student Competition. Sonia took the opportunity to experiment with bold new colours, switching up her typical colour palette to fit the fantasy brief given. Having now tried these colours, she’s keen to get more practice with them in the future.
Excitingly, our first-year student Yana won 1st prize for Higher Education students in this competition! She won two backstage camping tickets to the Beautiful Days Festival which had otherwise sold out!
Bath Bodyart Festival also provides the option for attendees to attend a body art masterclass before the event officially starts. This year’s workshop was with Monique Lilly. Sonia had seen online workshops with Monique before so had practiced her techniques before and was able to apply these at the workshop for a piece that she was very proud of!
The rest of the class was also able to learn and develop body painting skills here at UCW! Matteo Arfanotti, a worldwide recognised body painter from Italy visited the studio to deliver an exciting guest lecture. He helped our year two and year three students to create foam application pieces and apply body paint, combining two disciplines for this skill.
This guest lecture forms part of the Performing and Production Arts Careers Excellence Hub. At University Centre Weston our approach goes beyond the traditional classroom setting. Through industry speakers, workshops, employer projects, and more, we equip our learners with the real-world experiences and insights that set them apart in the competitive job market.
