Contemporary Art and Professional Studies, FdA

UCW student, Linda, North Somerset Arts Week

This Foundation Degree combines studio-based practice with entrepreneurial-focused learning to provide a pathway into the multibillion pound UK creative industries.

Applauded by external examiners for its cutting edge approach to helping students refine their individual creative identity, this course is delivered by professional artists who will help you develop practical and academic skills and position yourself professionally within the contemporary arts.

Students on this course get their own space in one of our studios, which is theirs to use inside and outside of scheduled classes for the whole year, and are also able to access an array of essential equipment, both technological and traditional.

By enrolling on the course, you’ll develop sound studio practice and exhibit your work, receive an overview of the history of art, and learn practical skills associated with the main classical and modern artistic movements.

You’ll also enhance your techniques in mediums including fine art, printmaking and sculpture, and explore the variety of opportunities open to creative practitioners with a work placement.

“UCW have been brilliant; I’ve been given a laptop with special software to help me do my degree work and lots of support in other ways too, and enrolling with them was one of the first steps I took in really embracing everything Weston has to offer.”
