Amy at the UCW Awards

Meet Amy: Our Student Ambassador of the Year

06/08/2026

Amy’s journey at UCW has been defined by passion, performance, friendship and personal growth. As she reflects on her time studying Dance for Commercial Performance, it is clear that the past three years have been filled with unforgettable experiences and lasting memories.

Amy’s achievements were recognised at the UCW Awards when she was announced as Student Ambassador of the Year! This was a moment she describes as both special and memorable. However, for Amy, sharing the experience with those closest to her was the highlight of the evening: “It felt so lovely to win at the awards! My favourite part of the evening was probably to celebrate with my friends who came too, they were so supportive!”

One of Amy’s standout memories comes from the opportunities to perform alongside her fellow students, doing what they love most: “My favourite moment from my course last year was probably performing at showcase or our end of year show, I loved the opportunities to dance onstage with my course mates as we are all doing what we love to do together!”

For Amy, the Dance course at UCW offered much more than technical training. The supportive learning environment, diverse curriculum and exciting performance opportunities helped her develop both as a dancer and as a person: “There are so many amazing things about the dance course at UCW! I love the small class sizes because you are able to get loads of 1 to 1 feedback in lessons so you feel so supported and it helps you improve and feel confident! I love how you get to train in a variety of dance styles as it’s really fun to learn different genres from different teachers. I also love all the performing opportunities such as music video, showcase and end of year show as they are so much fun!”

Throughout her studies, Amy was supported by a dedicated team of lecturers and staff who helped make her university experience so positive. She speaks warmly about the impact they had on her time at UCW and the encouragement they provided every step of the way: “I honestly have loved learning from all of my lectures as they have all taught me so much and have supported me more than I could imagine! Beky and Rachel both work so hard to make the course what it is so I am so grateful to them both! Also, the whole heart team and support staff are amazing, especially Terri, the warden for Parkside House, she feels like a mum for the whole accommodation, and she is always there if you need anything.”

Amy’s story perfectly captures the close-knit and supportive culture that makes University Centre Weston such a special place to study: “I have loved my time at UCW. It honestly feels like such a family and has been the best 3 years of my life. I am so grateful for all of the friends I have made and everyone who has made my experience so wonderful!”

This year’s UCW Awards were especially significant as they coincide with the celebration of 10 years of UCW. Over the past decade, we have empowered thousands of learners to achieve their ambitions, building a vibrant community where talent, determination and opportunity thrive. As we mark this milestone, the awards provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate not only a decade of higher education excellence, but also the outstanding achievements, resilience and success of the students who continue to shape UCW’s story and inspire its future.

From performing on stage and exploring a wide range of dance styles to celebrating achievements with friends and receiving unwavering support from staff, Amy’s time at UCW has been one to remember. As she moves on to her next chapter, she leaves with treasured memories, lifelong friendships and a wealth of experiences that will stay with her for years to come.
