We caught up with Gill, one of our amazing lecturers on our BSc (Hons) Animal Conservation, Behaviour and Welfare course to talk all about why this course could be perfect for you!
This is a 3-year programme that equips you to work in the fields of animal conservation, animal welfare and animal behaviour. Working in partnership with Bath Spa University and Puxton Park, this degree only requires you to attend 1 and a half days a week on the full time model (or 1 day a week part time) with 1 day a week work placement.
The modules covered on this programme consist of applied animal behaviour, animal ethics and welfare, conservation and wildlife management and many more based around biodiversity, ecological principles, research methods, behavioural ecology, conservation genetics and extremophiles.

Our current students have many opportunities to develop industry links through guest lectures, residential trips and more localised visits. UK based trips have included Exmoor Zoo, Shaldon Wildlife Park, National Aquarium, Avalon Marshes and a range of rescue centres and sanctuaries. Our international trip this year comprised of a 2-week trip to South Africa where students stayed in a nature reserve and experienced seeing the big 5 and working with, and learning from the rangers about things such as poaching patrols, sampling, reserve maintenance and tracking of cheetah. These trips offer our students a wealth of experience working in local and international conservation as well as appreciating the role and importance of animal behaviour and welfare.

These trips forms part of the Animal, Environment and Biological Careers Excellence Hub. At University Centre Weston our approach goes beyond the traditional classroom setting. Through industry speakers, workshops, employer projects, and more, we equip our learners with the real-world experiences and insights that set them apart in the competitive job market. It’s not just about getting a job; it’s about standing out from the crowd when they embark on their job searches.
