Head Start Study Skills Programme
UCW offers a free four-day programme to introduce our new students to higher education and help those who are already studying with us to develop their academic skills.
Head Start is delivered by our Higher Education Library Plus (HE.LP) team and really is perfect for anyone who wants some expert tips for succeeding on their degree.
The general sessions are designed to enhance study skills and also offer a great opportunity to meet other students and UCW academic and support staff before term starts in September.
There are also support sessions available for students who are anxious about attending university, or who feel that they may benefit from extra support.
The UCW student services team, HEART, will also be available to provide advice on topics including student welfare, finance and accommodation.
There will be workshops on:
- Referencing and academic writing
- Organisational skills and time management
- Mindfulness and relaxation
- Types of assessment
- Degree-level research
And if you’re still not convinced, here is what some of our students say about Head Start:
“I loved all of the programme – I have found it really useful and reassuring,” Jude, Counselling.
“It makes you feel more confident about starting in September,” Lucy, Early Years.
“I enjoyed meeting new people from other courses and learning about the support available,” – Emily, Dance for Commercial Performance.
