UCW and Chamber of Commerce collaborate to promote celebration of local businesses

UCW degree students working with chamber of commerce, business awards

University Centre Weston (UCW) degree students are working with the Weston Chamber of Commerce to promote its upcoming business awards ahead of nominations closing on Friday 30 December.

The awards, which will be held at the Royal Hotel in Weston on Saturday 4 February 2017, recognise the achievements of businesses in the town over the past year across 11 categories including retail, hospitality, innovation and customer service.

Students on UCW’s Foundation degree in Business with Management, which is delivered in partnership with the University of the West England, Bristol, will be running a marketing campaign through the Chamber’s social media to encourage ticket sales for the Gala.

UCW and Weston College will also be using their social media platforms to publicise the awards, and photography students from the institutions will be covering the event on the night.

Weston Chamber of Commerce President Steve Anderson said: “It is great to work with UCW students and to harness their enthusiasm and expertise to help increase engagement with this fantastic event on the Weston business calendar.

“The Weston Business Awards are going from strength to strength with more nominations than ever, and we are looking forward to celebrating so many business achievements and raising money for two worthwhile causes – Voluntary Action North Somerset and Weston Youth Orchestra – on the night.”

Melissa O’Connor, the coordinator of UCW’s business, tourism and events degrees, said: “Our programmes are focused on preparing students for work, so projects like this are really valuable for them in terms of networking with employers and developing the skills they will need to have great careers.”
