University Centre Weston (UCW) has launched three new degrees for students who aspire to careers in the performance arts.

The full Honours degrees are in the subjects of Musical Theatre, Performing Arts and Dance for Commercial Performance, and they build upon the UCW Academy of Performing Arts’ proven track record in delivering Foundation degrees and Honours Top-ups in these areas.

The courses, which start in September 2018, are being delivered on a full-time, three-year basis, with students based in the dedicated performance and rehearsal spaces on offer in our Knightstone Campus.

The facilities include two dance and movement studios with fully-sprung floors, a rehearsal studio and a studio theatre with 60 seats.

Students’ skills training is complemented by studies in each discipline’s key practitioners, processes and pieces, delivered in the brand new University Centre in the Winter Gardens.

Public performance is also at the heart of all three courses.

In recent years, UCW Academy of Performing Arts students have performed in prestigious venues including the Theatre Royal, Windsor, and Tobacco Factory, Bristol, and have also staged shows at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

UCW Academic Registrar Sadie Skellon said: “We’re really pleased that our highly qualified and experienced lecturers are now able to teach these new degrees to students, who will also benefit from the outstanding support services we offer at UCW.

“As well as lots of opportunities for performance, the courses also share the aim of developing versatile, imaginative and employable performers by replicating the professional workplace environment.

“I cannot wait to see the wonderful work the students on these courses produce in the years ahead.”

The new BA (Hons) Performing Arts, BA (Hons) Musical Theatre and BA (Hons) Dance for Commercial Performance degrees at UCW are delivered in partnership with Bath Spa University.
