University Centre Weston (UCW) Performing Arts students are returning to the Edinburgh Fringe this week on the back of brilliant reviews for their brand new shows.
As part of their degree, the students have formed professional theatre companies and written, staged and performed their work.
The two companies – Tough Yolk and Riddled Image – have spent the summer touring, performing at the Pleasance Theatre in London, Burdall’s Yard in Bath and the Tobacco Factory in Bristol.
They are now taking their original shows to the world famous Fringe – the biggest arts festival in Europe – after also performing there last summer.
Tough Yolk’s original show ‘Consumers’ will be on at the Greenside @ Infirmary Street venue from the 12th to the 17th of August.
Riddled Image’s original show ‘And Then They Died’ will be on at the same venue from the 19th to the 24th of August.
The students have also raised thousands of pounds themselves to fund their ambitious enterprises.
Riddled Image’s Jess Hicks said: “We’ve toured these shows in front of a variety of audiences over the summer, from the paying public in London to our home turf in Bristol, which has helped us to develop the shows to the high standard we are excited to be taking to the Fringe.
“London, especially, was a huge learning curve for us as we spent the week up there by ourselves, marketing and performing the shows in unknown territory.
“But not only did we secure an audience every night, we gained new fans and have been blown away by the reviews we’ve received.”
2018’s performance at Edinburgh by the students was described as “a lovely, earnest, and poignant show from an incredibly talented group of young artists” by Nikki Muller from FringeReview.
