Singer Marvin “The Jazzman” Muoneke is following up his summer of success on Britain’s Got Talent with a starring role in the upcoming Weston College and University Centre Weston production of A Christmas Carol in Windsor and Weston.
Marvin graduated from UCW in 2017 and found fame almost immediately by impressing the celebrity judges led by Simon Cowell on this year’s Britain’s Got Talent; reaching the semi-finals of the ITV talent show as part of jazz duo The Ratpackers.
He is now in rehearsals for the performances of A Christmas Carol at The Playhouse Theatre in Weston (Tuesday 6 November) and The Theatre Royal, Windsor (Monday 12 November to Saturday 17 November).
The talented 22-year-old has been cast as the Ghost of Christmas Present, and will be joined on stage by more than 35 UCW Musical Theatre, Performing Arts and Dance for Commercial Performance degree students.
Students Chrystal Bliss and Becky Petrie will be playing the Ghost of Christmas Past and the Ghost of Christmas Future, respectively, with London-based actor Leon Trayman taking on the role of Ebenezer Scrooge.
Marvin said: “I was thrilled to be asked to be part of this.
“I had a secret love of acting when I was younger, and although I put it on the backburner while I focused on music, I want to entertain on the stage so decided to go for it.
“We’ve started rehearsing now and it is going really, really well, so I hope as many people as possible are able to see the show in Windsor and Weston.”
The musical is being directed by UCW lecturer Kyle Davies, who, prior to working in education, directed professional productions in the UK and US, including A Christmas Carol at the Winter Gardens Blackpool in 2016.
The show also sees UCW students returning to The Theatre Royal, Windsor, following last year’s sold-out and well-received run of performances of Sister Act at the venue.
Weston College Group Principal and Chief Executive Dr Paul Phillips CBE said: “I am delighted that our up-and-coming performers will again be treading the boards in these wonderful theatres.
“We provide high-quality training in bespoke facilities alongside professional performance opportunities in prestigious venues.
“This winning combination makes Weston College the top choice for performing arts, musical theatre, dance and production arts education in the region.”
A Christmas Carol is based on the classic Charles Dickens novel of the same name and was adapted for the stage by Mike Ockrent, Lynn Ahrens and Alan Menken.
The Musical Theatre, Dance for Commercial Performance and Performing Arts degrees at UCW are delivered in partnership with Bath Spa University.
